Alphonso Davies causes anxious minutes for FC Bayern. The left-back had to come off early in the 3-2 win over Eintracht Frankfurt. Sporting director Max Eberl spoke directly after the final whistle and also talked about Manuel Neuer and Konrad Laimer.

The record champions celebrated a narrow 3-2 home win against Eintracht Frankfurt on matchday 23, but the injury to Alphonso Davies took center stage. The 25-year-old sat down on the Allianz Arena pitch shortly after the break, held his ankle and needed treatment in the 49th minute. Vincent Kompany reacted immediately and replaced the left-back with Hiroki Ito.

Max Eberl spoke about the Canadian’s situation in the mixed zone. „It looked like it was going to be longer,“ explained the sporting director. When asked whether there was a risk of a longer absence, he replied curtly: „Yes.“ A precise diagnosis was still pending that evening and Davies immediately went for further examinations.

The full-back left the pitch on his own, but pulled his shirt over his eyes. Sky commentator Jonas Friedrich immediately assessed the scene: „There are serious fears for the left-footer at the moment.“

According to BILD, there is nevertheless hope that the injury is not serious, as Davies went into the dressing room unaccompanied by a doctor. Several tests should provide clarity in the near future.

Kimmich: „He was very down on the pitch“

Joshua Kimmich described his impressions after the final whistle: „He was very down on the pitch, very sad, because he quickly realised it was an injury. I don’t know exactly what he has. He was a bit more composed in the dressing room. Let’s see what comes out. Now they’ll take a picture, then we hope it won’t be too long a time out.“

Jamal Musiala was also concerned, but remained cautiously optimistic: „But the way he ran out, I’m positive. It’s sad to see. We hope it’s nothing serious,“ the attacking player said on Sky.

Another break would be particularly bitter for Davies, who only made his comeback on 9 December after 262 days out injured following a cruciate ligament rupture in an international match in March 2025. Those responsible are now waiting for the results of the examinations.
