Bayern transfer double deal for Konaté and Leão? This is the current situation

Two big names have recently been discussed at FC Bayern: Ibrahima Konaté and Rafael Leão, but the current situation is much more sober.

FC Bayern are apparently not in talks with Ibrahima Konaté at the moment, which has significantly weakened the recent talk about the Liverpool FC centre-back. Rafael Leão is also said not to be a concrete topic at Säbener Straße at the moment, according to Sky.

Konaté in particular has been the subject of recent rumours. According to information from Fabrizio Romano, contract talks between the Frenchman and Liverpool FC have broken down and a move to Anfield Road is no longer considered realistic. The 27-year-old made 51 appearances for the Reds last season.

A few days ago, L’Equipe, alongside Real Madrid and Chelsea, also brought the German record champions into play in a possible Konaté transfer. CaughtOffside later even reported initial contacts between Bayern and the Konaté camp.

Leão probably too expensive as a backup

Leão also brings plenty of fuel to the fire in the summer transfer window. After six years at AC Milan, the Portuguese had publicly indicated that he was looking for a new challenge. The attacking player told Sport TV: „I’m proud that I was able to make history at Milan, but I want to open a new chapter in my career.“

Although the 26-year-old is still under contract with the Rossoneri until 2028, he could become cheaper than long assumed. According to Corriere della Sera, Milan are now willing to let Leão leave for around €50 million. His release clause is €175 million, but in view of this new asking price, it has recently only played a theoretical role.

This is nothing new for FC Bayern, who were already interested in the winger last summer and, according to Sport Bild, there was also a meeting between the club and the player’s camp at the time. Leão would have been open to a move to Munich, but rejected offers from Saudi Arabia.

Despite this, the Portuguese international is said to have no concrete place in Bayern’s plans at the moment. As things stand, Munich are looking more for an addition on the wings behind Michael Olise and Luis Díaz. Whether Leão would even aspire to such a role is questionable, especially as he is likely to be too expensive for this role despite possible price reductions. He was also rarely convincing in sporting terms last season.
