Chelsea are looking to sign a centre back this summer and are admirers of Rennes defender Jeremy Jacquet according to reports.

The Blues tried to sign Dean Huijsen from Bournemouth last summer, but the Spain international opted to join Spanish giants Real Madrid.

Chelsea then lost Levi Colwill to an ACL injury after the Club World Cup, and despite pleas from then head coach Enzo Maresca for a new centre back, the Blues didn’t grant his wish.

Chelsea admire Rennes defender Jeremy Jacquet

The Blues have done reasonably well defensively this season, and Wesley Fofana and Trevoh Chalobah shown signs of forming a good partnership.

Fofana hasn’t been able to play every game, and the likes of Tosin Adarabioyo and Benoit Badiashile don’t appear to be up to the level required.

Jacquet is on Chelsea’s radar.

Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi is available on a free transfer in the summer, but Chelsea don’t appear to be pursuing a move for the England international.

An overhaul of the centre back department is required, and BBC Sport have reported Chelsea are admirers of Rennes defender Jacquet.

Chelsea have previously been linked with Jacquet, and the 20-year-old has impressed in Ligue 1 and has made 16 appearances, with Rennes currently sixth in the league.

The France under-21 international is under contract until 2029, and Arsenal have reportedly shown interest in the Frenchman previously.

Aaron Anselmino impressing on loan

Whether Chelsea move for Jacquet remains to be seen, but the Blues already have a young centre back on their books who’s impressing.

Aaron Anselmino has put in a series of impressive performances on loan at Borussia Dortmund, with the German club keen on signing him.

Chelsea have insisted the Argentine isn’t for sale, and if he continues his good form for the remainder of the season, he could easily find himself as part of the first team squad at Stamford Bridge next season.
