Belgium struck twice in three minutes late on to take their World Cup last 16 tie with Senegal to extra time in Seattle, having trailed by two.

Introduced at half-time, Romelu Lukaku pulled one back in the 86th minute. He met Thomas Meunier’s low cross at the near post and beat Mory Diaw with a right-foot finish under the bar.

Belgium equalised in the 89th minute when Youri Tielemans converted Leandro Trossard’s delivery after Diaw misjudged his attempt to claim it. Moments earlier the pair had exchanged words during a cooling break.

Rudi Garcia’s side had been outplayed for long spells and were two down before their late surge. The turnaround kept the Red Devils alive.

Both Lukaku and Meunier came off the bench, the former at the interval.
