Craig Bellamy says patience will be crucial for his Wales side if they are to beat Bosnia and Herzegovina on Thursday night.
Wales host Bosnia and Herzegovina in Cardiff, knowing victory will take them to through to a play-off final for a place at the World Cup this summer.
But Bellamy stressed that his players cannot afford to give in to “chaos”.
“There’s only one team that’s had more possession than us of 18 games of being here, although Montenegro away but that was a mad game,” Wales boss Bellamy said.
“We’re sixth in Europe for overall possession so we’re used to having the ball.
“With that comes experience and knowhow. Then you have to be patient and sometimes wait for the extra pass to open it up more if it doesn’t open up at first.
“Not getting involved in chaos. A chaotic game will not suit us, it suits them, so it’s very important that we’re able to move the ball, wait for openings and then find the openings.
“If we do find them, make sure we’re compact enough to then counter and react to the second balls and bounce on them straight away, otherwise we lose space and there’s big problems in this game. We need to be compact in possession as well.
“If we try and force it and force it too early, we get too wrapped up in everything else going on. I know we want to win, I know everyone wants us to win, but if we buy (that), it’s going to suit them, it won’t suit us, so wait for the moment because it will present itself.
“If we have to take four or five extra passes to do it then it has to take that.
“We have to be clear, we have to be calm. It’s not for us to ride that rollercoaster.”
