Hull City booked their place in the EFL Championship play-off final with a 2-0 win over Millwall at The Den, completing the semi-final tie on a night when the hosts had more of the ball but could not turn control into goals.
Millwall finished with 66% possession and created more from set pieces, registering 10 shots, five on target and six corners, but Hull were more incisive in attack. The visitors managed 14 shots, seven on target and eight corners, with an expected goals figure of 1.87 compared with Millwall?s 1.04.
The deadlock was broken on 64 minutes when Mohamed Belloumi fired Hull into the lead from the right side of the box, sending his effort into the left corner after being set up by Matt Crooks. That goal gave the visitors the edge they needed in the tie and shifted the momentum firmly in their favour.
Hull then killed off the contest on 79 minutes through Joe Gelhardt, who finished from the centre of the box into the right corner after a quick break, with Belloumi providing the assist. Two clinical finishes proved enough for the away side, while Millwall were left frustrated despite their territorial dominance.
