Chelsea are closing in on their first major piece of incoming business since the summer.
The Blues are after Jeremy Jacquet of Rennes, and all the top sources like Fabrizio Romano are saying we’re making serious moves to secure him this month. His club want more than the €64m they got from Man City for Jeremy Doku, and right now Chelsea are trying to negotiate that fee down.

Ben Jacobs has just given an update on the situation, also pointing to Chelsea’s other options in that area. He points out that another name we heard a lot last week, Como’s Jacobo Ramon, is tricky to sign because Real Madrid have a buy-back clause in his contract. Even if they don’t intend to use him themselves, if he keeps playing well, they’ll surely trigger it just to sell him for a bigger profit.
Jacobs also notes that it’s worth keeping an eye on Marcos Senesi, the Bournemouth defender who is a free agent this summer. He’s older than the majority of players we sign, but as we saw with Tosin, a free transfer changes the equation for our model.
Even buying him this month would mean a serious discount, if the Cherries are willing to sell mid-season.
Chelsea still have David Datro Fofana on their books, perhaps not for much longer. He’s apparently going to be recalled and sold off as we look to tidy up our operation this month.
Also potentially on the move this month is Kendry Paez, whose loan to Strasbourg has not gone as planned. He needs a fresh start, the sooner the better. It sounds like he’ll get one, according to Fabrizio Romano.
