In 18 league starts for Leicester City, Ben Nelson is yet to record a clean sheet, but a reunion with Gary Rowett could change that.
LeicesterMercury.co.uk notes that Nelson, like injured Jordan James, has worked under the new manager before. After returning from injury at Oxford, he started nine of the final 10 matches, with four wins that each came with a clean sheet. Leicester now need similar results as they fight the drop.
Rowett said he relished working with the centre-back and praised his athleticism, stature and calmness on the ball. He wants Nelson to assert himself at Leicester and influence team-mates, and believes he can do so.
He cautioned that, as a young defender, Nelson will have outstanding games and others that sting, and must learn from them. Rowett believes in his huge potential, yet stressed the need to affect matches immediately, not in a year or two.
The manager also sees scope for contributions in attack, reminding Nelson of his Oxford goal in a 2-0 win over Sunderland that sealed their Championship status in the penultimate match. He wants him on the end of more crosses, and Leicester could do with those returns.
