According to as.com, Beñat Prados, a regular in Ernesto Valverde’s midfield, was seen jogging outside at Lezama on Pitch 1 this morning. It comes four months and a week after surgery on the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.

The operation took place on 23 September, the day Athletic faced Girona at San Mamés, passed without incident and he later rested in his room. It was carried out under IMQ coverage.

His return was estimated at between six and seven months.

Valverde was left without the third pillar of his midfield alongside Galarreta and Jauregizar. He has turned to the young Rego and redeployed Unai Gómez in a double pivot in a campaign packed with Liga, Copa and Champions commitments.

Long-term injuries to Egiluz and Sannadi have also upset the team’s balance.

Prados, born in Pamplona in 2001, was developed at La Txantrea and Lezama, then loaned to CD Mirandés before stepping up to the first team. He is valued for mixing creation and ball-winning, his willingness to contest second balls and his character, and he has passed the halfway point of his rehabilitation.
