Marco Silva remains Benfica’s leading choice to take charge, but prolonged uncertainty around José Mourinho has left the Fulham manager hesitating after expecting a resolution this week.

According to A Bola, Silva would have accepted immediately if Mourinho had left the Estádio da Luz by Friday, the end of a window easing a Real Madrid move. With that prospect largely dismissed, he is now weighing whether to continue waiting.

The report adds that he fears being stuck in limbo if Florentino Pérez does not win Real Madrid’s elections on seven June, an outcome that could reshape Mourinho’s future and, in turn, Benfica’s planning for next season.

Silva has yet to give Fulham a definitive answer. The club have tabled an offer through 2030 with a net salary of €seven and a half million a year, a figure that would place him among the Premier League’s highest earners.

Benfica’s proposal is around €five million net per season on a two-year deal, with an option for a further year. Silva is prepared to take a significant pay cut to return to Portugal, but wants competitive terms for his backroom staff.

He has recently arrived in Lisbon and is expected to make a decision in the coming days, choosing between waiting for Benfica or immediate stability in England.
