According to Glorioso 1904, Atlético Madrid midfielder Thiago Almada wants to remain in Europe despite Palmeiras’ interest, a stance that could revive Benfica’s hopes.
Benfica tried to sign him in the summer but fell short. Talks with John Textor, owner of Botafogo, broke down after months spent convincing the player, and Atlético Madrid ultimately sealed the move with stronger financial terms.
Reported fees at the time varied. One version put the deal at €20-25 million for the full rights. Another said €20 million for 50 percent, with a €15 million obligation to buy the rest by 2028 if he is not transferred.
Benfica have publicly denied any interest in Almada. Whether the Eagles could revisit talks now, given his desire to stay in Europe and target the 2026 World Cup, remains to be seen. Any move would hand Mourinho a significant addition.
This season for Atlético Madrid, the €20 million-rated playmaker has made 16 appearances, 11 in La Liga, three in the Champions League and two in the Copa del Rey. Across 619 minutes, he has scored two goals and provided one assist.
