Benfica are in negotiations with Ajax to sign Josip Sutalo as they prepare significant changes to the squad, with António Silva close to joining Bournemouth. According to Glorioso 1904, the 26-year-old centre-back has been lined up to strengthen the defence.

Talks are said to be close to completion. The right-footed Croatian is noted for his passing from the back, anticipation, composure under pressure and sound positioning, while not especially aggressive.

Sutalo started and completed 90 minutes when Croatia lost 2-1 to Portugal in the round of 16 at the last World Cup, a tie settled late on. He featured in four matches, totalling 360 minutes, underlining his status as an undisputed pick throughout the tournament.

Finding a new centre-half became a priority for Benfica given Silva’s imminent departure to Bournemouth. The situation has obliged the board to act quickly to secure a replacement.

In 2025/26 with Ajax, Sutalo, valued at 12 million euros, made 31 appearances, 24 in the Eredivisie, six in the UEFA Champions League and one in the Dutch Cup. He logged 2,288 minutes without a goal or an assist.
