José Mourinho’s Benfica future remains far from settled despite a contract through 2027, with three clear scenarios set to shape the club’s summer and medium-term plan.
A BOLA reports that Rui Costa currently holds the decision, which could mean keeping the coach, agreeing a departure or fully renegotiating the deal, with any split activating a release clause of around three million euros.
Mourinho is also leaving all possibilities open, including a possible exit, with clubs monitoring his situation, notably Real Madrid, where he continues to be seen as a strong option for the near future.
Even so, he has already worked on next season’s planning, submitting several detailed reports to Rui Costa and general director Mário Branco. Those papers flag gaps in the squad and recommend targeted adjustments, favouring steady evolution over radical change.
Renewal also remains in play and, if pursued, could remove the existing release clause, reinforcing stability and giving Mourinho greater scope to stamp his imprint on the squad.
