Benfica are to keep 17-year-old forward Anísio Cabral in their plans for the rest of this season, and intend to include him in future squads to aid his development.
A Bola reports that his recent promotion reflected several factors, including the lack of a January signing up front despite José Mourinho’s wishes, with conditions not right for a deal.
That plan fell through in a difficult winter market, but Cabral’s debut against Estrela da Amadora underlined the 17-year-old’s considerable potential.
The club’s football hierarchy value the shirt number 72 and view him as part of their future. Mourinho considers him a short to medium-term bet, and there are intentions to renew his contract until 2031.
This season Cabral has made 18 official appearances, 10 in the national under-19 league, three in the UEFA Youth League, three in Liga Revelação and two in the Liga Portugal Betclic. He has scored five goals in 1,134 minutes.
