Benfica have opened talks over João Palhinha and could send an official proposal to Bayern Munich soon. The Rui Costa-led board has contacted the player's camp and is across the figures involved.

Record reports that Benfica could table a €25m bid. Another route would be a loan, priced at €10m, with a €15m obligation to buy, with Bayern paying part of the wages. Ideally, Benfica would sell a player before lodging any offer.

Palhinha, who recently turned 31, is under contract at Bayern until 2028, but Vincent Kompany's side do not plan to keep him in the squad.

He spent last season on loan at Tottenham, becoming an important figure in a difficult campaign, though Spurs did not trigger the €30m option.

Benfica are keen to move, and the player suits Marco Silva, with whom he worked at Fulham between 2022 and 2024. Premier League clubs are also monitoring the situation. Milan, now led by Ruben Amorim, are attentive.

For Tottenham this term, Palhinha, valued at €15m, made 45 appearances, 33 in the Premier League, eight in the Champions League, two in the EFL Cup, one in the FA Cup and one in the UEFA Super Cup. Across 2,917 minutes he scored seven goals and provided two assists.
