RB Leipzig are resigned to losing their star striker Benjamin Sesko this summer.

Red Bull GmbH, who own RB Salzburg and RB Leipzig, have had Sesko on their books since 2019.

United showed interest in the Domžale sensation, who was making headlines with his raw talent and physicality as a 16-year-old. However, the Premier League side were beaten to his signing by Salzburg, failing to match the €2m fee agreed by the Red Bull outfit.

The Red Devils also tried to bring the Slovenian to Old Trafford in 2023, but Leipzig convinced him to move to the Bundesliga instead.

However, this summer, Sesko has made up his mind to leave the German outfit, and he appears destined to move to the Premier League.

Sesko set to leave RB Leipzig

According to Sky Sport Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg, the 22-year-old is not in the squad for the Bundesliga side’s friendly against Atalanta today.

The reason behind his absence is his “imminent departure” from Leipzig. It is claimed the striker has already told his teammates that “he will be leaving.”

Plettenberg adds that United and Newcastle are pushing to sign Sesko.

The Magpies have underlined their determination to sign the Slovenia international by submitting a bid worth €80m. However, United are also prepared to spend a considerable fee to win the race for the sought-after forward.

Manchester United can afford Sesko

According to the Manchester Evening News, United are “confident of financing a deal” for the Leipzig star before selling any of their outcasts.

It is understood that United have opened discussions to sign Sesko “in a deal that could cost up to £79million.”

Interestingly, it is claimed that Newcastle are “resigned to Sesko joining United.”

United have so far received nothing from sales this summer. However, Ineos believe they have “extra headroom to do a deal for a striker” following the season-long loan of Marcus Rashford. The loan agreement with Barcelona has saved the club around £14m.
