Bernardo Silva has said Manchester City’s 2-1 win over Arsenal is ‘very big’ in the context of the Premier League title race.

Pep Guardiola’s side beat the Premier League leaders to move within three points of Arsenal, with a game in hand. A clash billed as a potential title decider went in City’s favour, after Erling Haaland’s second-half winner.

City had opened the scoring through Rayan Cherki’s classy goal, but Arsenal levelled just two minutes later when Kai Havertz charged down Gianluigi Donnarumma’s clearance. The Italian made a mess of the situation as his kick ricocheted off the German and into the goal.

Both sides had chances to win the game, and it was little surprise that Haaland had the final say. The Premier League’s leading scorer swept home the decisive goal to earn City the points.

Arsenal pushed for an equaliser, and were fortunate that Gabriel did not see red for pushing his head into Haaland. Havertz wasted the best chance late on as he headed over when well placed.

For Arsenal, it’s one win in six games and the momentum now appears with the Mancunians. City can go top of the table with a win at Burnley on Wednesday night.

“Very big because it puts us in a position if we win our game in hand we’re on the same points,” Silva said to Sky Sports about the win.

“Two weeks ago this didn’t look very likely, this scenario. I’m happy we can be on the same points.”

Asked if he now feels the title is in Manchester City’s hands, the City captain added: “It’s a long season. A lot of small details didn’t go our way this season. Also unlucky plays, we missed a lot of chances. A lot of games we should have won. Today things went our way. I’m really happy.”
