Bernardo Silva’s selection for our Premier League clash with Wolves means he's set to make a landmark 400th appearance for Manchester City.

The Portuguese playmaker is just the 16th man ever to play 400 times for the Club and the second to hit the milestone this season after Kevin De Bruyne did so in January.

Having been part of the 18 major honours won under Pep Guardiola, Silva is one of the most decorated players in our history.

He has been a pivotal figure in one of the best sides English football has ever seen, picking up six Premier League titles, a Champions League, two FA Cups, four League Cups, three Community Shields, and a FIFA Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup.

In fact, no player has ever been used more by Guardiola than Bernardo.

Perhaps that comes as no surprise when you consider how the boss spoke about his No.20 last April after Silva scored the winner in our FA Cup semi-final with Chelsea: “To have Bernardo on the pitch, I feel more safe, more comfortable.”

It is Bernardo’s intelligence and ability to keep the ball in almost any situation that the Catalan most admires, relying on the Portugal international to play as many passes as it takes to wear down the opposition and prevent counter-attack opportunities.

Whether used on the wing or in midfield, he can also be relied upon to put the needs of the team first and give his all in every single game.

The 30-year-old has topped our stats for distance covered in the Premier League in four of the last five seasons, running almost 12 kilometres every 90 minutes on the pitch.

While not a prolific goalscorer, Bernardo has chipped in with his fair share of strikes throughout his City career including some spectacular efforts.

His two strikes in the 4-0 Champions League semi-final second leg demolition of Real Madrid in May 2023 will stand out for most fans but he’s also found the net in crucial games against the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool.

His cushioned volley at Aston Villa was even voted our 2021/22 Goal of the Season.

In total, he’s netted 70 times – an average of a goal every 5.7 matches.

After 53 games in our 2017/18 Centurions season, Bernardo stepped up to a new level in 2018/19 – earning the fan’s vote to be crowned our Etihad Player of the Season as we lifted all four domestic trophies.

He has remained remarkably consistent and injury-free throughout his time at City, playing at least 50 times in five of his seven complete seasons to date.

His busiest campaign so far came in 2022/23, when he played 55 of a potential 61 games as part of our historic Treble-winning season.

That included being one of three players – alongside Ilkay Gundogan and Jack Grealish – to play 13 matches on our triumphant run to Champions League glory.

49 games followed last term, before another 45 as we approach the final straight of this one.

All that goes to show just how important Bernardo has been and remains to Pep Guardiola’s wildly successful City reign.

Everyone at Manchester City would like to congratulate Bernardo on this landmark in his remarkable career.
