According to SuperDepor.com, Bernardo Romeo will leave his post as AFA’s general coordinator of youth national teams next week, six months before the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada.

The former San Lorenzo striker departs after six years in the job. His position was not tied to the senior side’s daily work, yet it was strategic for the long term. The exit comes with Argentina already qualified and their project bolstered by the Qatar 2022 triumph.

Romeo was appointed in January 2020 and oversaw the Under-15, Under-17, Under-20 and Under-23 categories. He served as a constant link with Lionel Scaloni’s senior staff, aiming to align methods and values across all age groups.

A key achievement was strengthening the Scouting Department with Juan Tassi in Europe, widening the net for Argentines abroad. That helped bring in dual-national players now in the set-up, including Alejandro Garnacho and Nico Paz.

He had outlined a system based on continuous tracking, weekly reports and a shared platform with coaches. His remit also covered planning, logistics, arranging tours, medical and infrastructure oversight, and day-to-day coordination to smooth the pathway to the senior team.

The departure is a personal decision, with the possibility of continuing his career abroad in a similar role at a club or sporting structure. There are reports linking him to football in the United States. AFA has not yet formalised the exit or named a successor, and there are no confirmed candidates.
