Barcelona have planning to push for a new midfielder in the coming weeks, as they prepare to replace Marc Casado. Among the possible candidates, there is a clear favourite for the likes of Hansi Flick and Deco, and that is soon-to-be free agent Bernardo Silva.
Silva is a player that Barcelona have had on their radar for several years, dating back to Xavi Hernandez’s time as manager. But with his Manchester City contract expiring at the end of the month, now is seen as the perfect time to pick up a player that would play an important role in Flick’s squad, given his ability to cover in midfield and also on the right side of attack as an understudy to Lamine Yamal.
Pep Guardiola, Silva’s former manager at Man City, has endorsed Barcelona’s move for the 31-year-old, who has now broken his silence on the matter. As per MD, he confirmed that Catalonia is an option that he has under consideration, although any decision would not be made until after the 2026 World Cup is over.
“Barca is an option I have, but I haven’t made a decision yet. There is a lot of options, and I have respect for all the teams. In the end I’m going to try to find a team where they want me, where I feel that they really love me. That is very important and the day I make my decision they will know.”

Barcelona is an option that Silva views favourably, but he will have his pick of clubs in La Liga’s elite. Atletico Madrid are also pushing to secure an agreement with him, while it has also been reported in that last 24 hours that Jose Mourinho wants to take him to the Bernabeu if he is appointed as Real Madrid president – which will happen if Florentino Perez wins this weekend’s presidential election.
