Bianconere beat Torreense in UWCL Mini Tournament | OneFootball

The Women’s First Team beat Torreense 2-1 in Biella in their first UEFA Women’s Champions League match of the season. Isaac Guerrero’s side won the Mini Tournament semi-final thanks to goals from Estela Carbonell and Ana Capeta.

The final will be played against Swedish side Hammarby, on Saturday, August 8.

THE MATCH REPORT

It was a deadlocked first half for Juventus in Biella; they had their first chance after nine minutes through Barbara Bonansea, but her weak shot posed no threat to the opposition goalkeeper. The slow pace of the game prevented Guerrero’s side from striking with as much conviction as the coach would have liked. In the 28th minute, Capeta had a header from a corner, but failed to hit the target. The first real chance came from an Annamaria Serturini-Capeta one-two, but the attempts, first in the 34th minute and then just before the end of the first half, failed to change pace of the game. At half-time, the score was 0–0 at the ‘Pozzo – La Marmora’ stadium.

In the second half, the Bianconere immediately broke the deadlock. It took just one minute for Carbonell to find the opener with a left-footed volley, putting Juventus ahead. The goal allowed the home side to take control of the match. Torreense tried to push forward on a couple of occasions, but just past the hour mark, the Bianconere doubled their lead. Credit goes to Capeta, who scored from an excellent cross by Serturini, putting Juventus 2–0 up in the 65th minute.

In the closing stages, the Bianconere eased off the pace and Torreense came back into the game, threatening Juventus on several occasions. They hit the woodwork three times and even scored in the 90th minute through Jennie Marshall’s header. It was a late strike that, fortunately, did not alter the result or prevent Juventus from qualifying. The match ended 2–1, securing a place in the final of the Second Qualifying Round of the UEFA Women’s Champions League, where they will face Hammarby.
