Lazio are among the five Serie A clubs that have created the fewest big chances during the first 11 rounds of the Serie A campaign.
The Biancocelesti have been relatively solid at the back, only conceding nine goals since the start of the season. Ivan Provedel has already registered five clean sheets from 11 appearances. However, the Italian capital side has been struggling on the opposite end of the field, scoring only 13 goals.
Maurizio Sarri’s men have been far from creative since the start of the campaign, and this weakness has become more evident after losing Taty Castellanos and Matteo Cancellieri to injury. Moreover, an interesting study reveals that Lazio’s main issue is not squandering chances in front of goal, but struggling to produce scoring opportunities in the first place.
According to SofaScore, Lazio have only created 19 big scoring chances since the start of the season, which puts them in 16th place in the table, alongside Como. Only Hellas Verona (18), Cremonese (18) and Lecce (12) have created fewer chances than the Aquile.
Interestingly, Roma (20) have created only one more big goal-scoring opportunity than their eternal rivals. Gian Piero Gasperini’s men have actually scored 12 goals this season, one fewer than Lazio. And yet, they currently share the top spot in the Serie A table alongside Inter Milan, mainly thanks to their rock-solid defence, which has conceded only five goals.
Speaking of the Nerazzurri, the table shows they are head and shoulders above the competition, with 47 big chances created. Their closest rival, AC Milan, lands in a distant second place with 31 chances, while Bologna and Genoa share the third spot with 25, just above Juventus with 24.
