It has been an inconsistent season for Birmingham City thus far.

The Blues took League One by storm last term, finishing the season with a total of 111 points, before showing serious ambition over the summer.

Though Chris Davies' side have been unable to find any sort of consistency and throw themselves into the promotion race.

With the January transfer window approaching, Sky Sports' Anthony Joseph reports that the Blues have reignited their interest in Celtic winger Yang Hyun-Jun.

The Korean was set to make the same switch at the end of the summer, before the £3 million deal collapsed on deadline day.

Football League World's Birmingham City Fan Pundit, Jason Moore, has outlined that he would welcome the addition as the Blues look to add depth ahead of the season's second half.

"I would welcome it" - Claim made as Birmingham City chase Celtic winger

"We've been chasing him [Yang] since the summer," said Jason, when asked about his thoughts on a potential move. "It was the same with Phil Neumann - once they have got their eyes on someone, they seem to be pretty persistent."

"He seems to be someone that we really want. Chris Davies plays a part in our recruitment too, so he seems to be someone who he values."

Looking at a spot in the lineup for the Korean, Jason mentioned the need for pace in Davies' side.

"He looks to be a pacy player, which is something that we are desperately lacking out on the right, and if he adds any more quality to other positions, I am all for it," Jason told FLW, before also highlighting the lack of depth in the current Birmingham squad.

"Off the bench, we have Lewis Koumas. As much as I have tried to defend him, he just hasn't been good enough. He is still young, but he needs first-team football. And then, Keshi Anderson just isn't it at all.

"I would welcome the signing for a bit more quality. Celtic fans don't seem to rate him, but to be fair, they don't seem to rate anyone at the moment," added Jason.

Yang has played just twice in the Scottish Premiership this term, with his only goal coming in the Europa League against Feyenoord, while Celtic themselves sit six points adrift of league leaders Hearts, winless in all four matches under new head coach Wilfried Nancy.

"If we bring in more quality, I am all for it. As much as I was happy with our business over the summer, I don't think that the overall quality of the squad is good enough, hence why Patrick Roberts and Demarai Gray play every single game," concluded Jason.

Birmingham City need depth if they want to challenge for promotion

Birmingham's biggest issue throughout the season thus far has been the real lack of consistency, with the Blues failing to win twice in a row since back-to-back 4-0 wins against Portsmouth and Millwall at the start of November.

Jason mentioned the lack of squad-wide quality at St Andrew's, and the minutes played across the current Blues squad back this up.

Following his summer return, Demarai Gray has racked up 1,631 minutes on the left-hand side, with only Christoph Klarer, Tomoki Iwata, Paik Seung-ho and Jay Stansfield having played more.

On the opposite flank, Patrick Robers has racked up 1,099 minutes since his integration after the season had started.

In contrast, back-up options Keshi Anderson and Lewis Koumas have played for just 660 and 491 minutes respectively, while just one goal from the former completes the output tally between the pair.

Gray and Roberts are far from poor options for a side aiming to climb further, but further quality and depth are a must in the January window for Birmingham.

Yang has not quite got going in a Celtic shirt, but a move to the Championship could benefit both him and Birmingham City tenfold.
