Blues are currently set for a bottom-half finish in the second tier, even though they began the season with aspirations of finishing in the play-offs, having won the League One title last term.

Chris Davies' men suffered three consecutive league defeats before beating top-six chasers Wrexham last Sunday, and sit just 15th in the Championship with four games remaining.

Birmingham's poor form has put Davies under pressure, and ambitious owners Knighthead Capital Management could consider hiring a new head coach ahead of next season.

Blues flexed their financial muscles in the winter transfer window, completing signings such as that of former Deportivo Alaves star Carlos Vicente, and ex-Djurgarden striker August Priske.

Acquiring players from top-flight divisions elsewhere in Europe further demonstrates the West Midlands outfit's promotion-chasing ambitions, but their performances have not matched lofty expectations in recent weeks, which is reflected by Birmingham's lowly position in the Championship table.

Meanwhile, as the St Andrew's club plan for further transfer activity in the summer, they will oversee outgoings as well as making further additions.

Perhaps with that in mind, Blues have recalled young striker Frank Tattum from his loan spell with Leamington, as confirmed by the non-league club on X.

According to a report from the Wednesday Word earlier this month, Tattum has been on trial with Sheffield Wednesday, ahead of making a potential move to South Yorkshire this summer.

The 20-year-old scored when the Owls' Under-21 side defeated Wigan Athletic earlier in April, and has notched five goals for Leamington in the National League North this term.

Wednesday are set to be active in the summer transfer window, if prospective owner David Storch successfully completes his takeover at Hillsborough.

The South Yorkshire club, who were relegated from the Championship to League One in February, have been in administration for the majority of the campaign following the exit of failed owner Dejphon Chansiri.

Meanwhile, as reported by the Sheffield Star, Tattum is approaching the end of his two-year deal with Birmingham, and the West Midlands side aren't showing indications of exercising their option to extend his contract by a further 12 months, meaning that the Owls could sign him on a free transfer.

Frank Tattum arrival would give Sheffield Wednesday further hope for David Storch era

Storch is currently undergoing the EFL's Owners' and Directors' Tests, and no issues have surfaced, meaning that he should be able to complete his takeover by the start of next month.

The Owls have endured an extremely difficult campaign, which they hope they will never have to experience again.

Wednesday's 2025/26 hardship began last summer, when several key figures departed Hillsborough, because Chansiri failed to pay player and staff wages on time.

However, the potential arrival of Storch's Arise consortium has given Owls supporters a fresh hope that their club can enjoy a brighter future, despite their relegation to League One.

In a positive twist, Alan Nixon has revealed via Patreon that Chansiri is open to having talks with Arise regarding his debts, which may mean that Wednesday can avoid a further 15-point deduction next season, having been docked 18 points this term.

Meanwhile, acquiring Tattum would suggest that Storch is keen to build a bright future at Hillsborough by signing talented, young players.
