Birmingham City are back in the Championship after a dominant campaign at the top of League One.

The Blues have made a strong start to the new season, earning four points from a possible six, including a point against promotion-hopefuls Ipswich Town.

Chris Davies has overseen a lot of transfer activity since guiding the Midlands outfit to promotion, with the club setting their sights on a place in the Premier League.

Birmingham have until 1 September to complete any remaining deals before the market shuts.

Lewis Koumas pursuit

Birmingham are leading the race to sign Lewis Koumas from Liverpool this summer.

It has been reported by the Liverpool Echo that the Blues are considering a permanent approach for the 19-year-old, who spent last season on loan with Stoke City.

A number of Championship sides are understood to be keen on the youngster, including fellow newly-promoted side Wrexham, as well as Norwich City, Sheffield United, Hull City and Preston North End.

It is believed that Liverpool value the player in excess of £10 million, but it remains to be seen whether Birmingham are willing to match that fee.

Birmingham’s Aleksandar Mitrovic links

It was reported by Talksport journalist Alex Crook earlier this month that Aleksandar Mitrovic is a target for Birmingham this summer.

However, according to Birmingham Live, the Serbian is not currently an active target for the Championship side.

Mitrovic previously scored 43 times in one season for Fulham in the second division, helping them gain promotion under Marco Silva.

But it’s been claimed that the forward’s £400,000 per week wages with Al-Hilal could prove too big of a stumbling block to overcome for the Midlands outfit at this stage, even with the player being willing to take a pay cut.

Don Goodman makes Aleksandar Mitrovic transfer claim

Don Goodman has questioned whether Mitrovic would be a realistic signing for Birmingham.

The Sky Sports pundit has praised the forward’s ability to make goal scoring look so easy, but is sceptical whether he is a target that the club could realistically attain right now.

"I'm not sure how accurate or genuine reports that Birmingham were keen on Aleksandar Mitrovic are,” Goodman exclusively told Football League World.

“I would imagine that he would be way beyond, at the minute, even what Birmingham City could afford, both in terms of a transfer fee and in terms of wages.

"So, yeah, we can talk about [it] hypothetically.

“Obviously, we saw what he did at Fulham the last time he played in the Championship, which was 43 goals in 44 games.

"He's going on and hitting similar levels of goals, but it doesn't really seem a very realistic link to me.

“But I understand why anybody would want Aleksandar Mitrovic.

“He's got that rare knack of finding scoring goals very easy, particularly for the last four or five years."

Birmingham’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain stance

According to GiveMeSport, Birmingham have an interest in signing Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain after his exit from Besiktas.

However, it is understood that they are keen to secure other targets first before making any decisions on whether to pursue the 32-year-old.

It has been claimed that Oxlade-Chamberlain has been offered to the Championship side after his contract was terminated earlier this summer.
