Shrewsbury Town star John Marquis has pointed out that Birmingham City are a good side but feels they have their weaknesses as they tend to get very open and expansive.
Birmingham suffered their second defeat in the league this season on Saturday against Shrewsbury.
Blues lost 3-2 against Gareth Ainsworth’s Shrewsbury despite the goals of Tomoki Iwata and Jay Stansfield.
Marquis stated that Ainsworth set them up with a game plan to be aggressive with their pressing against Birmingham and hurt them in transition.
He pointed out that Blues are a good side, but they are very open and expansive, which Shrewsbury took advantage of to score the second and third goals.
“He is clear and concise with his message and I think you could see that today”, Marquis told Shrewsbury’s in-house media about Ainsworth.
“We set up with a game plan which was to be aggressive, press when we could and hurt them in the transition moments.
“Obviously, Birmingham are a very good side, but they do get very open and very expansive.
“We felt like with [Tom] Bloxham’s pace and my knowledge more than pace, I would say we were able to pick our moments when we won the ball back to hurt them on the counter-attack and the second and third goals come from that.”
Birmingham are now fourth in the League One table and Blues fans will be hoping that Chris Davies will be able to sort out their problems to get them automatic promotion.
