Blackburn Rovers are looking to steer themselves away from the danger of relegation from the Championship this season, with the club lingering just above the bottom three as things stand.

It hasn't been an especially pretty season at Ewood Park this year, with the former Premier League champions finding themselves within the very real possibility of playing their football in the third tier next campaign.

Former Barnsley, West Brom, and Watford boss Valerien Ismael's one win in 14 league outings prior to his dismissal left the Lancashire-based outfit among the bottom three, but since former Stoke City boss Michael O'Neill has taken the reins, things couldn't have gone much better.

Two wins in his opening two league games, including a late winner at home against rivals Preston North End, mean Rovers are now looking up the table instead of down.

Not only has it lifted them from immediate danger, but it has surely provided the squad with all the confidence they need to go on and retain their place in the second tier next year.

They strengthened their squad in January with the additions of former Bolton Wanderers winger Dapo Afolayan from German side St. Pauli and Bodo/Glimt forward Mathias Jorgensen.

However, it is their first January addition who has had the greatest impact thus far, and who Blackburn fans would surely love to see join the club permanently over the summer.

Eiran Cashin would be an excellent permanent addition for Blackburn Rovers, but he may be out of their price range

Eiran Cashin spent the first half of the season on loan with Birmingham City, but the defender failed to make a positive impact at St Andrews and was recalled from his loan spell by Brighton and loaned back out to Blackburn.

Since his move to Ewood Park, the 24-year-old has been excellent, scoring the only goal in their 1-0 over Sheffield Wednesday and assisting Yuki Ohashi's late winner against Preston.

Football League World's Blackburn fan pundit, Simon, has shared their thoughts on whether they would like to see Cashin join the club on a permanent deal in the summer.

When asked whether he would like to see the Irishman return permanently, Simon said, "Absolutely. 100%, I would encourage Blackburn to explore a permanent deal for Cashin.

"He's been brilliant since he signed for us. He's fit into the squad really well, and he's been a big part of driving the squad forward over these last few games. The impact that obviously he's had in the defence has been really, really strong.

"Realistically, I can't see us signing him. I think he'd be well above our budget. Looking at his previous transfer fees, you know, that's money that we can't really afford.

"So I can't see it realistically, but I would love to love and see him in a Blackburn shirt permanently."

Eiran Cashin can play a huge role for Michael O'Neill at Blackburn Rovers in the latter stages of the season

With less than a third of the season to go, Blackburn's Championship status remains in the balance.

Sheffield Wednesday are already relegated, leaving two remaining spots in the bottom three up for grabs, with the likes of Oxford United, Leicester City, and West Brom all still in danger alongside them.

The appointment of O'Neill looks to have been a savvy move, with the Northern Irishman having previously done a similar firefighting job with Stoke several years back.

Cashin will likely play a telling role in the outcome of their season, as with Lewis Miller out for the rest of the season, a greater onus will be placed upon the remaining defenders.

The Brighton loanee has led by example since his move, and has the quality in both boxes to make the difference at Ewood Park this season.

A permanent move is not out of the question, though, given Brighton paid Derby County £9 million for him just a year ago, he's likely to be unaffordable for them, regardless of what division Blackburn
