Augustus Kargbo has once again been linked with a move to Ewood Park

Blackburn Rovers are plotting a move for previous target and Sierra Leone international forward, Augustus Kargbo.

That is according to Corriere dello Sport - relayed by SportWitness and Italian news outlet, PianetaSerieB - on Wednesday morning, who state that the East Lancashire outfit are looking to strike a deal for the Cesena FC winger in what remains of the current winter transfer window.

Rovers have been linked with a handful of forwards since the beginning of the window on New Year's Day, as John Eustace looks to add further firepower to a side who have netted the fewest amount of goals in the Championship's top half so far this season, only scoring 28 goals in their opening 25 second tier outings.

Despite being tipped for yet another season of struggle at the start of the campaign, Blackburn find themselves just a place and a point behind managerless West Bromwich Albion, who occupy the final play-off place at present, although Eustace's side have gone winless in their last five league encounters.

Therefore, reinforcements are a must at this moment in time, and the seventh-place side are said to have rekindled their interest in Kargbo, who was a target in the previous window.

It was reported a week after the summer window slammed shut by Alan Nixon via Patreon, that the wide man, who was instrumental in 'I Cavallucci Marini's promotion to Serie B last term with nine goals and ten assists in 31 games, was on Rovers' list of potential targets as Eustace looked to add more depth following the loss of Sammie Szmodics to Ipswich Town.

Nixon reported at the time that in order to acquire the 25-year-old, who has made 17 appearances for his country, Blackburn may have to garner over £1m, with there being an expectancy at that point that Kargbo was to be sold in January.

And, according to the aforementioned fresh reports, the Ewood Park club are said to be "pressing" an interest for the winger, who is considering a departure from The Stadio Dino Manuzzi, after a poor run of personal form for the Italian side.

Cesena currently sit 10th in Serie B with 26 points accumulated in the first 21 games of the season. However, despite featuring in 17 of those outings, Kargbo hasn't been able to replicate his prior form yet, scoring twice and laying on just one assist in the league, whilst also scoring twice and turning provider once in three Coppa Italia games.

The last of those goal contributions came on 20th October in a 5-3 home defeat to Sampdoria.

Having monitored his situation in Italy for some time, Kargbo is clearly a player who has caught the eye of Rovers' recruitment team, as they look to add the sufficient depth required to maintain a play-off bid.

The wide areas are one department in which Eustace can call upon a variety of options, such as Ryan Hedges, Todd Cantwell, Amario Cozier-Duberry and Tyrhys Dolan, with the latter of those being tracked by Swansea City as he enters the final months of his current deal, a story which was exclusively revealed by Football League World.

It's clear that when on-form, the Freetown-born forward can cause all kinds of issues for opposition defences, although the Italian second and third tier are a completely different kettle of fish in comparison to the Championship.
