Boca have added goalkeeping cover after Agustín Marchesín’s knee injury, with Leandro Brey to start the Superclásico at the Estadio Más Monumental on Sunday 19 April.
According to LaNumer12.com.ar, reserve keeper Fernando Rodríguez, 21, has been promoted as third choice and joined first-team training on Thursday. He signed his first professional deal in early 2025, running to December 2028. He has trained with the senior squad before.
Boca had beaten Barcelona in the Copa Libertadores, but lost Marchesín in Guayaquil to a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. He is ruled out for the rest of the year.
Rodríguez, from Santo Pipó, has featured in five of the eight matches for Herrón’s team in the Torneo Proyección Apertura 2026, keeping three clean sheets. He missed others through a muscle tear, from which he is now fully recovered.
Cristian Muñoz’s goalkeeping group now comprises Brey, Javier García and Rodríguez, at least until mid-year when the transfer window opens. The club could then look to add another goalkeeper.
Brey is poised for his official Primera División debut against River Plate. At reserve level he has faced River three times, with one win, two draws and only one goal conceded. He is unbeaten in senior clásicos against the other grandes, beating San Lorenzo twice as a starter, defeating Racing after replacing the injured García, and drawing with Independiente from the off.
