Veteran defender Matteo Darmian is confident Inter Milan can overturn a 3-1 deficit in their Champions League playoff tie against Bodo/Glimt.

Speaking to Sportitalia via FCInterNews, the 36-year-old insisted the Nerazzurri’s qualification hopes are still very much alive.

Bodo/Glimt defied the odds, beating the San Siro giants at the synthetic pitch of the Aspmyra Stadion.

Indeed, Kjetil Knutsen’s side secured a huge two-goal advantage heading into the return leg in Italy.

Meanwhile, Francesco Pio Esposito kept Inter’s hopes of locking down a last-16 berth alive.

However, star striker Lautaro Martinez suffered a calf injury in the second half, forcing Cristian Chivu to take him off.

As a result, El Toro may not be at Chivu’s disposal when Bodo/Glitm roll into town next week.

Furthermore, he is likely to miss Inter’s upcoming Serie A match against bottom-half Lecce.

Though reluctant to admit defeat, Matteo Darmian insists Inter must learn from their mistakes.

“We’ll need to analyze what we did,” Darmian said. “It’s a negative result, but my feeling is that everything is still open.

“We will definitely have to do better in the return leg, and we will prepare in the best possible way.

“Has too much been said about other things? No, I don’t think so.

“We are mature enough to focus on what awaits us, and what happened on Saturday, I think, was put behind us fairly quickly.

“From the very next day, we focused on this game.

“We knew it would be difficult, and it turned out to be a tough match, but we are looking ahead in a positive way.”

Darmian fared well in his first start of the season, even hitting the post in the first half.
