Over the last week or so, Sunderland have been working on a move for Bologna’s Jhon Lucumi after an offer was made for the defender.
Rossoblu director Claudio Fenucci then made it clear that the Colombian wasn’t for sale, leading to Lucumi’s agent making it clear that he wants to leave.
Il Resto del Carlino report today that the player is interested in a move to Sunderland but Bologna’s stance is firm.
There is now a possibility that the player and his agent could refer to article 17 of FIFA. This regulation provides for the possibility for a player to be released in exchange for compensation after three years have passed since the signing of the contract, provided that it was signed before he turned 28.
This suggests that Bologna’s power in the situation is reducing, especially Sunderland’s offer of €30 million is still on the table.
