Chelsea boss Sonia Bompastor is full of praise for new signing Alyssa Thompson and says that she will make an impact on the team this season.

A 2-1 win against Manchester City in the first match of the Women’s Super League season added to Chelsea’s impressive unbeaten record last campaign.

Even though they won the WSL by 12 points last season, the Blues still bolstered their squad this summer, most notably breaking their club transfer record to bring in Thompson from Angel City FC.

Bompastor believes that the American will make her side even better this season: “I think she’s a player who will make an impact on the team. I think again it’s important for us to have depth but also to have a healthy competition in the squad so we already planned earlier in the transfer window to bring a winger in the squad.

“It took quite a long time to get the deal done but we just were able to bring her in and I’m really pleased because I know her quality, I know what she can bring to the team

“I think she will make an immediate impact for us to continue to have success hopefully but also on our performances and results, she’s a great player, great person so I’m really pleased she’s with us.”

Another player brought into Bompastor’s side this summer is full back Ellie Carpenter from Lyon. She got an assist on her Chelsea debut against City.

“It was a great performance from Ellie. I know Ellie by heart and I’m not really surprised about her debut with Chelsea and her debut in the league. She’s a great player.as you could see tonight.” The Chelsea boss said.

“She just brought an immediate impact into the performance, into the result and I think she has this quality so it’s a good addition in our squad and again I think it’s good to have her at Chelsea, in this league.

“Having the opportunity to bring players with her quality in this league is always something really positive and we are really proud to have her in our squad.”
