Sonia Bompastor has provided an update on injured players Kiera Walsh, Aggie Beaver-Jones, Kadeisha Buchanan and Mayra Ramirez.
Chelsea will pick up their Women’s Super League (WSL) campaign in 2026 by hosting 11th-placed West Ham on Sunday, and Bompastor assured that her side would be picking up where they left off with the same approach of “every game matters”.
The Blues ended 2025 with several players sidelined by both long- and short-term injuries, but Bompastor was able to give positive news ahead of their first game of the new year.
Kadeisha Buchanan, who has been out of action since November 2024 with an ACL injury, is “progressing really well”, according to the manager who added: “[She’s] not far from being back with the team in training sessions, which is really positive.
“I can’t put a timeframe on her official return, but hopefully it will be soon,” Bompastor acknowledged.
The manager also confirmed that Mayra Ramirez, who has been out of action since September with a thigh injury, has returned to the training ground.
“Mayra is now back in Cobham, though it’s also difficult to put a timeframe [on her return], but she will start her rehab with the group,” she said. “We’ll have more details next week on where’s she’s at and when she’ll be expected to come back with the team”
As for England stars Keira Walsh and Aggie Beever-Jones, Bompastor confirmed neither would be available for the fixture against the Hammers, but that Walsh was “progressing well” and Beever-Jones could be available next weekend when Chelsea face Crystal Palace in the Women’s FA Cup.
As for the Blues’ return to the WSL, they are unbeaten in their last 15 league games against West Ham, although they could be facing a team gunning for a new manager bounce, as it will be the first game for the Hammers under new manager Rita Guarino.
Chelsea currently sit six points behind leaders Manchester City, and will be aiming to half the deficit at Kingsmeadow.
