Victor Boniface is edging closer to a return to action after fighting his way back from a hamstring injury sustained in November.
Bayer Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso announced on Monday that the Nigerian striker will be in his squad for Tuesday's Champions League clash with Atletico Madrid.
"He trained this morning and we decided that he could travel. He's feeling much better, so we're going to include him in the squad for tomorrow (Tuesday). This is very good and very positive for everyone, especially for him," said Xabi Alonso.
However, he added that it may take some time for Boniface to return to top form after such a long injury lay-off.
“We need 'Boni', but of course he needs time on the training pitch now. He has a good feeling, which is very important for tomorrow (Tuesday), but also for the next game.”
After the Atletico encounter, Leverkusen travel to Leipzig at the weekend.
