Borussia Dortmund Team News

New signing Filippo Mané is suspended following his red card debut against St. Pauli and there’s no early comeback for the players who are on the treatment table.

Defender Niklas Süle will miss around two months with a calf problem sustained in pre-season against Juventus in pre-season. Nico Schlotterbeck remains sidelined with a meniscus injury until mid-October, while Emre Can is out with a groin problem until early September.

Carney Chukwuemeka has completed his permanent move from Chelsea to strengthen the midfield options.

Union Berlin Team News

Steffen Baumgart’s side will be without several key players. Livan Burcu is ruled out with an ankle injury until late September, while Lucas Tousart remains doubtful due to illness. Stanley Nsoki is in a race against time to be fully match fit after joining on loan from Hoffenheim.

The capital club has strengthened their squad with the permanent signing of striker Andrej Ilic from Lille following his impressive loan spell, and left-back Derrick Köhn has arrived from Galatasaray for €4 million.

Kovač’s side finished last season strongly, securing fourth place and Champions League qualification after taking over mid-season. The Croatian manager has extended his contract until 2027 following his impressive turnaround. Despite the opening day draw with St. Pauli, in which they lost a two-goal lead, Serhou Guirassy was on target and will lead the attack yet again.

Baumgart’s team made a positive start under their new manager, defeating Stuttgart 2-1 in the season opener. The former Union player has implemented a new four-man defensive system, moving away from their traditional back three. Union are unbeaten in five consecutive away matches and will look to equal their record of six.
