Borussia Mönchengladbach attacker Robin Hack has undergone surgery for a torn meniscus in his right knee. Hack’s Bundesliga outfit confirmed the news on Friday. The 27-year-old – who has started all four of Gladbach’s competitive fixtures this year – will be out for “several weeks“. Problems continue to mount for the 16th-placed Niederrheiner.
After scoring a brace in Gladbach’s opening round Pokal fixture, Hack hasn’t been able to make his presence felt in his club’s first three league matches of the season. Three games in which the team has been unable to score a single Bundesliga goal led to the foals dismissing head coach Geardo Seoane earlier this week.
Under the aegis of interim head coach Eugen Polanski, Gladbach prepare to face Bayer Leverkusen in their fourth league match on Sunday. Leverkusen themselves have just undergone a coaching change, but are looking stronger under newly installed head coach Kasper Hjulmand.
Polanski will likely move newly-acquired versatile attacker Giovanni Reyna over to the left wing to take over for Hack against Leverkusen while Kevin Stöger starts in the ten slot. Recently returned loanee Grant Leon-Ranos – who has featured off the bench in the last two games – might also be called upon to start.
“Robin is a fighter,” BMG sporting director Roland Virkus noted in a club statement released on Friday. “He is already looking forward and we will support him as best we can during his recovery.”
