Inter Milan star Francesco Pio Esposito will reportedly start on the bench when Italy and Bosnia & Herzegovina face off against each other tomorrow.

According to Sky Sport Italia via FCInterNews, Gennaro Gattuso is reluctant to bench his regular starters in the most important game of the year.

Indeed, after missing out on back-to-back FIFA World Cups, the Azzurri are desperate to qualify for this summer’s tournament.

However, they must overcome Bosnia in the playoff final to book tickets for North America.

Gattuso can draw confidence from Italy’s 2-0 home win over Norther Ireland in the semi-finals last Thursday.

Moise Kean, who scored Italy’s second goal in that win, is likely to lead the line alongside former Atalanta striker Mateo Retegui.

Therefore, Francesco Pio Esposito must settle for another start on the bench despite faring reasonably well on Thursday.

Indeed, the 20-year-old delivered a decent performance after taking Retegui’s place midway through the second half.

However, with the stakes at an all-time high, Gattuso is reluctant to put the young center-forward under pressure.

Instead, Esposito will probably get some minutes in the second half, especially if the Azzurri find themselves chasing the game.
