Sunday’s Serie A fixture between Fiorentina and Inter has been canceled after Edoardo Bove collapsed on the pitch. The Roma loanee fell to the ground in the 17th minute, with the match abandoned shortly afterward.
Inter scored the goal minutes earlier as Lautaro Martinez beat David de Gea with a thunderous half-volley. However, referee Daniele Doveri ruled it out for a throw-in in the build-up. Denzel Dumfries seemingly failed to keep the ball in play before releasing his captain in space with a fortuitous long pass.
Simone Inzaghi and his players were busy urging the referee to consult with VAR, claiming the play was valid when Bove collapsed near the Nerazzurri touchline. His teammates and Inter players immediately called for medical help, with many of them holding their heads in their hands.
Luca Ranieri and Andrea Colpani were crying while the medical staff stretchered the unconscious Bove off the pitch. The 22-year-old was admitted to the hospital in critical condition. Luckily, he has regained consciousness.
Initial reports suggest that he is under observation, and his condition is now stable. Further medical evaluations will determine the extent of his recovery, but his teammates and fans are hopeful for his swift return.
Meanwhile, it’s hard to tell when and if the match will resume in the coming days.
