Brazão sees Santos improve under Cuca, wants home win: “We need to win”

After 10 days without playing, Santos return to the pitch this Thursday, when they face Remo at Vila Belmiro in the ninth round of the Brasileirão. Goalkeeper Gabriel Brazão highlighted the team’s spell without matches, saying the side has improved under Cuca. In addition, the keeper also called for a win to end the club’s winless streak.

“Coach Cuca needs no introduction — he’s a champion. Everywhere he’s been, he’s managed to win titles, and I think his arrival is going to help us a lot. Everything is in place for it to work out, and he’s here to add to the group. I hope we can show that on the pitch,” the goalkeeper told SantosTV.

Brazão pointed out that the period was not only useful for physical recovery, but also for adapting to the new coach.

“Not only to recover, but also for us to have time to work. It came right after a change in charge. Now there are new behaviors on the pitch, new movements… So it was practically two weeks of excellent preparation for us to come back for this run of games and get as many points as possible and put in great performances,” he added.

Draw against Cruzeiro and next match

Brazão said the draw against Cruzeiro, in the last match before the FIFA international break, was important given the strength of the opponent. However, the goalkeeper said the result now needs to be followed by a win against Remo.

“We got an important point away from home against a great team. But that point will only really matter if we manage to get the win at home,” he said.

“It’s a game we need to win and, with the support of our fans, we have everything we need to play a great match and take all three points,” he added.

At the moment, the Alvinegro Praiano sit 16th with just seven points — one more than Botafogo, the first team in the relegation zone.
