Midfielder Kristjan Asllani and defender Carlos Augusto will start for Inter Milan in today’s Serie A match against Venezia.
This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They report that injuries and squad rotation will play a big role for the Nerazzurri.
Inter coach Simone Inzaghi is having to juggle quite a few problems as his team returns to Serie A action for the first time in 2025.
The Nerazzurri are dealing with quite a number of injuries.
The likes of Francesco Acerbi, Yann Bisseck, Hakan Calhanoglu, and Henrikh Mkhitaryan are all missing at the moment.
And even the players who are available will surely be feeling the effects of the gruelling run of fixtures. Exhaustion and even more injuries could surely become a concern.
Then, the fixture list isn’t going to get any kinder to Inter. This evening’s trip to Venezia is the first in a sequence of six matches before the end of January between Serie A and the Champions League.
And after that, the second Milan derby of the season kicks off a February that’s full of huge matches.
In midfield, Inter coach Inzaghi is ready to give Kristjan Asllani the nod.
Calhanoglu is absent, with an eye to returning against Bologna.
And Inzaghi knows how important it will be to manage the Turkish international’s fitness. He needs Calhanoglu back and at his best in this decisive stretch.
Therefore, Asllani will get the nod this evening, as Calhanoglu’s main backup. That’s despite creeping doubts and some unconvincing performances.
Meanwhile, Carlos Augusto will start on the left of Inter’s back three, reports the Gazzetta.
This will give Alessandro Bastoni a chance to rest.
Bastoni has been a real stalwart for Inter in recent weeks. He has virtually always started matches, amid an injury crisis in defense.
But Inzaghi will let Bastoni catch his breath this evening.
