The Brazilian midfielder has decided to retire from professional football. A free agent since leaving Athletico Paranaense last January, the ex-midfield dynamo—who also starred for Shakhtar and Manchester City—confirmed to Brazilian media that he will not return to competition. "I’m already tired, I exhausted myself just running a little over 30 minutes today. There’s nothing left in football that motivates me, I’ve already achieved so much. Now, it’s time to enjoy my family," he declared.

Fernandinho’s career was nothing short of illustrious: fourteen trophies with Shakhtar, including six Ukrainian Premier League titles and a UEFA Cup, followed by fourteen more honors with Manchester City—most notably five Premier League crowns. On the international stage, he lifted the U20 World Cup and a Copa América with Brazil.
