Inter Milan wingback Carlos Augusto feels that teammate Valentin Carboni “deserved his goal” against Urawa Red Diamonds.
The Brazilian spoke to Italian broadcaster DAZN, via FCInterNews, after the 2-1 victory. Carboni scored a dramatic stoppage time goal to deliver the three points to the Nerazzurri.
Valentin Carboni was not the likeliest hero for Inter Milan against Urawa Red Diamonds.
The Argentine is only just coming back from an ACL tear that has kept him out since October.
But it was Carboni who Inter coach Cristian Chivu turned to late in the Nerazzurri’s Club World Cup match against Urawa Red Diamonds.
When Chivu threw the 20-year-old on off the bench, Inter were trailing 0-1 in the Club World Cup group stage clash.
However, Lautaro Martinez was able to find the equalizer for Inter.
From then on, it looked as though the Nerazzurri would be settling for a point.
However, it was Carboni who found himself with the ball at his feet inside the penalty area in stoppage time. And the Argentine showed great technique and composure to tuck the ball into the far corner.

Inter and Brazil defender Carlos Augusto commented that “we know that when you have an injury like that it’s tough.”
“He trained a lot,” Augusto said of Carboni. “And He also worked alone.”
“He deserved his goal. And he helped us to get this win.”
Then, Augusto noted that “it’s normal to be tired both physically and mentally after such a long season.”
“Now we have to start preparing for the match against River Plate. They’re a South American team, and they’re a very strong side.”
And Augusto said that Inter “knew [Urawa Reds] are an organized team with a lot of discipline.”
“After their goal they shut up shop well.”
“We had the courage and desire to win the match,” Augusto added.
“We could have done more. But the important thing was the win.”
