Brenden Aaronson will learn today whether he has made the United States men's national team for the World Cup. He has expressed sympathy for Leeds team-mates Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Anton Stach after their omissions, saying both deserved selection and could use the setback next season.

According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, the forward is expected to be named when the USMNT reveal their squad later today. The 25-year-old has 57 caps and nine goals, and played four times at the 2022 tournament.

He featured in the October, November and March international windows, and his name appeared on what was reported to be a leaked list of call-ups.

If selected, he would join Switzerland's Noak Okafor and Sweden's Gabi Gudmundsson as Leeds participants at the tournament, with Calvert-Lewin and Stach having missed out with England and Germany respectively.

Calvert-Lewin scored 14 goals and was central to Leeds' approach as a target man. Stach created a high volume of chances, impressed defensively and added five goals.

Aaronson said a home World Cup would be a dream for him and his family, and that he would be thrilled if he can go. He added that representing his country on home soil would be unforgettable.
