Brentford are wasting no time reshaping their squad this summer, with Ipswich winger Omari Hutchinson firmly on their radar. As reported by Sky Sports, Brentford made a move on Tuesday to trigger Hutchinson’s £35 million relegation clause, but the terms offered did not meet Ipswich Town’s expectations. That clause has now expired, leaving Ipswich in control of negotiations.
This pursuit comes amid sweeping change at Brentford. Manager Thomas Frank has left for Tottenham, Christian Nørgaard has joined Arsenal, and Bryan Mbeumo is poised for a big-money move to Manchester United. On top of that, there is continued speculation around Yoane Wissa’s future.
“In this summer, where Thomas Frank has left for Tottenham, their captain Christian Norgaard has left to go to Arsenal, Bryan Mbeumo is set for Man Utd and there’s all this talk about Yoane Wissa as well, Brentford will not be sleeping,” Dharmesh Sheth explained on Sky Sports’ The Transfer Show.
Despite these high-profile exits, Brentford have consistently shown resilience in the transfer market. They are widely recognised as one of the Premier League’s most sensibly run clubs, known for smart recruitment and an ability to reinvent the squad when key players depart.
“They are a very sensible club and they always seem to find a way when players leave,” Sheth added, highlighting Brentford’s reputation for shrewd decision-making.
Hutchinson has become one of the standout talents after an impressive season with Ipswich. A dynamic winger with creativity and pace, he would bring fresh attacking impetus to Brentford under new manager Keith Andrews.
“Ipswich now have the control in that situation; they can ask for what they want. They don’t want to sell him, however, they are expecting Brentford to come back in with an improved offer,” said Sheth.

Ipswich’s reluctance to part ways is understandable, but with Premier League clubs circling, it may become difficult to hold onto the young star if Brentford raise their bid.
Brentford’s recruitment model focuses on young, high-potential players who can be developed further. Hutchinson fits this blueprint perfectly. His ability to take on defenders, create chances and contribute goals would help fill the void left by departing stars.
It is no surprise that Brentford are determined to pursue Hutchinson despite the setback earlier this week. With their financial model and long-term planning, they will weigh up how far to push negotiations without breaking their structure.
As the transfer window progresses, Brentford’s moves will be closely watched. One thing is clear: they are not standing still, and the Hutchinson saga could be a key storyline in their summer rebuild.
As a Brentford supporter, this is the kind of ambition we want to see! Losing Thomas Frank was a blow, no doubt, and seeing Nørgaard head to Arsenal and Mbeumo likely off to Manchester United could easily unsettle the fanbase. But hearing that Keith Andrews is actively targeting a player like Omari Hutchinson gives us real hope.
Hutchinson is exactly the type of player we love at Brentford — young, fearless and with bags of potential. Under Andrews, who knows a thing or two about building exciting teams, Hutchinson could thrive and become a new fan favourite.
I think it’s smart that the club met the clause but stood firm on their own terms. We are not a club to be held to ransom. That said, I would love to see an improved offer go in soon, because this feels like a player we should not miss out on.
Brentford fans are used to seeing stars leave, but we are also used to seeing new heroes emerge. If Hutchinson joins, I believe he could be the spark we need to push on under Andrews’ leadership. Bring it on!
