Sunderland are among Premier League clubs linked with Galatasaray defender Roland Sallai, and were credited with a January move.
A Spor reports that the Black Cats monitored the 28-year-old during the winter window alongside Liverpool, while Brentford are now tracking the Hungary international ahead of the summer.
Sallai joined Galatasaray from SC Freiburg in September 2024 and is a regular in Istanbul. Mainly a right-back, he has also filled in at left-back and further forward. He has 64 appearances, seven goals and seven assists, including one goal and six assists this season.
The report said Sunderland made a strong attempt in January, and Liverpool were also linked as they sought cover after injuries to Conor Bradley and Jeremie Frimpong. Why a deal did not materialise is unclear, and no fee has been indicated.
Brentford are said to be preparing a summer move, with a bid possible once the season ends. The Turkish champions are reportedly open to trimming the squad amid financial restructuring, which could make Sallai available. Whether Sunderland return under sporting director Florent Ghisolfi is uncertain.
Separately, Dr Football in Iceland suggests HK midfielder Thorvaldur Smari Jonsson will travel to Wearside later this month for a short trial. He made 11 appearances in Iceland’s second tier last season.
