Carly Williams' side were looking to extend their perfect start to life in the LSE Premier Division and they started fast in their new surroundings.
Chelsie Berry went close heading just wide from a pinpoint corner from Maddie Phillips.
Against the run of play, the visitors went ahead through Chanel Morris, whose strong header proved too powerful for Tatiana Saunders to keep out despite getting a hand to it.
It took two minutes for the scores to be levelled as on 8 minutes, Berry arrived in the box unmarked and provided a neat finish to restore parity.
Leading the line for the home side, Khyri McKenzie showed great persistence to pressure the Ashford defence, winning the ball in the box and firing goalwards, only to be denied by a fine one-handed save from goalkeeper Rose Mylam.
Brentford remained the side in control of the contest and McKenzie's strike from the edge of the box, clipped the top of the crossbar.
Williams' side began the second period in similar fashion to the first and Esme Alaneme went agonisingly close to giving her team the lead, taking on a first-time shot which just went past the post.
There were a number of half chances as the game was being played exclusively in the Ashford Town half.
Williams' side were struggling to find the go-ahead as Down was next to try her luck, striking from distance but her shot just went over the bar.
On 71 minutes though, Down was not be denied for a second time as her unbelivable shot from distance found the net, clipping the bar on the way in.
The Bees managed to see out the game and prevent any late scares from the away side to seal the win.
Down's strike proved to be the winner as Brentford were made to work hard for the victory.
The win today is Williams' side's sixth in the league and it is their seventh in all competitions.
The Bees also make it two out of two wins at Wheatsheaf Park following their first victory at the ground in the 2023/24 season where they beat Richmond Park 2-0.
Brentford return back to Wheatsheaf Park in their next fixture as they take on Sport London E Benfica on Wednesday 1 October (7:45pm kick-off BST). Tickets are available here.
