Brentford’s Igor Thiago pens improved contract, calling his bond with the club “real love” | OneFootball

Igor Thiago has said it is true love with Brentford after signing a new contract with the club.

Thiago has put pen to paper on an improved deal at Brentford, following an explosivePremier League campaign. The Brazilian has scored 17 goals in 26 games, with only Manchester City striker Erling Haaland having outscored Thiago in the Premier League.

The 24-year-old has now distanced himself from transfer speculation by signing a new five-and-a-half deal.

Thiago's new contract comes on the same day he was named asPremier League Player of the Month for January, his second monthly award this season. He also picked up the prize in November 2025 and is the first Brazilian to have won the award more than once.

Thiago's form could earn him a maiden call-up for Brazil ahead of the 2026 World Cup, and no Brazilian has scored more goals across Europe's top leagues this season.

Speaking to theclub's official website, Thiago thanked Brentford for the belief the club have shown in him.

“I love the club and the people in the club. It’s a true love, a real love," he said.

“In the beginning, when I first came, I had the injury. The staff and the people around the training ground were helping me and supporting me.

“When the fans support me, and I see them singing my name and singing my song, it gives me more power. I’m really happy for all of the love they have given to me. It means so much.

“With Keith (Andrews), it’s more of a relationship as a father and a son. I’m really happy with him as he trusts and believes in me

“I’m enjoying every single day and every single training session so much. It’s been a good journey and I’m happy to be here.”
