Brian Brobbey equals Ronaldo and Podolski as Koeman highlights fitness after Sunderland move | OneFootball

Brian Brobbey moved alongside Ronaldo and Lukas Podolski in World Cup history as the Netherlands beat Sweden 5-1.

Sunderland Echo notes that the striker linked his resurgence to his move to Wearside, and Ronald Koeman highlighted improved fitness since leaving Ajax.

The 24-year-old started and scored twice inside the opening 17 minutes. Lutsharel Geertruida and Robin Roefs were named in the Dutch squad but did not get on.

Only three players have managed that feat in the last 40 years, the others being Ronaldo in 2002 against Costa Rica and Podolski in 2006 against Sweden.

Brobbey arrived from Ajax after a difficult final season that raised questions about confidence and condition. At the Stadium of Light he has looked sharper and more comfortable.

After the game he said he was delighted to help the team, had been told two days earlier he would start and went in full of confidence. He added that a new club and new people have aided his development and that he is trying to show it.
