Wolfsburg attacker Patrick Wimmer is being heavily linked with a departure from the club after their relegation to the 2. Bundesliga. According to a report from Bild, Premier League side Brighton are interested in signing the Austrian, but they face competition from Eintracht Frankfurt.
Sky Germany add that Brighton have even submitted an offer, while Hoffenheim have also entered the race to sign Wimmer – who has a reported €10m exit clause after Die Wölfe’s relegation – and have even began concrete negotiations with the player’s representatives.
At Brighton and Hoffenheim, Wimmer will get an opportunity to play in a European competition for the upcoming season in the UEFA Conference League and UEFA Europa League respectively, but Frankfurt, who missed out on Europe completely, also hold a trump card.
Die Adler have just appointed Adi Hütter, who returns to the club he managed between 2018 and 2021, but is a compatriot of Wimmer and the pair have ‘known each other for years.’
