“He [Mitoma] will be out. He will miss the next two games,” the Brighton boss told Sussex World.
“Regarding the World Cup I'm not sure yet. We will be in touch with the Japan federation. It is a big blow.”
Brighton visit Elland Road on Sunday for Leeds’ final home game of the season, with safety already secured. Mitoma went off just before the hour in the 3-0 win over Wolves, appearing to suffer a hamstring problem.
The injury could open the door for Georginio Rutter to return on the flank, the forward has started only one Premier League game since early March and could face the club he left for Brighton in a £40million move nearly two years ago.
“We have a big squad and we have showed this season we can replace important players. We see it as a chance to stick together. Everyone in this team can have an impact. It's a blow but an opportunity.”
Diego Gomez is also in contention after a knee injury and scored twice in the 3-0 win over Leeds in October. Full-back Mats Wieffer could feature following an ankle issue, while Stefanos Tzimas and Adam Webster remain sidelined.
